Garbine Muguruza v Shelby Rogers Predictions & Preview

In what will be their second meeting, Garbine Muguruza will be up against Shelby Rogers in their second round match at the Shenzhen Open. And the Spaniard, a former world number one and a multiple Grand Slam winner, will look to make it 2-0 against Rogers having won their first ever meeting at the 2016 French Open. It was the French Open Muguruza went on to win as well.

As we had discussed in our previous preview as well, Muguruza’s form has tapered off so drastically, her ranking has fallen to 35th in the world. To give you a context, the last time she fell to that low a WTA rank, was way back in 2014. And even in the first round win, Muguruza was tested to the hilt by Xinyu Wang, a player ranked outside the top 150 – she needed three sets to make it through.

Rogers, on the other hand, missed the entire 2018 because of a knee injury and spent 2019 in trying to get her form back, one that had seen her upset Simona Halep in 2017 and reach 48th in the world. She ended with a 17-17 win-loss record.

Tip: Muguruza to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Qiang Wang v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Predictions & Preview

This is the first match between China’s Qiang Wang and Aliaksandra Sasnovich and they meet in the second round of this Shenzhen Open. Wang endured a first round ouster in both, 2018 and 2019 of this tournament, which is why a victory over Ons Jabeur in straight sets should fill her with a lot of confidence.

That win comes after a surprising end to her season last year, when she made the quarterfinal at the US Open but ended with three losses off her last six matches of the year.

Sasnovich, once ranked 30th in the world, hasn’t won a tournament even at the lowest level of tennis since 2014, but will also be pleased with her showing to start things off in 2020. She was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Anna-Lena Friedsam following her 22-23 record last year. On hard court surfaces, she finished 14-14, which was a stark disappointment following her 22-9 record in 2018.

Wang starts favourite here and might even complete a straight-set victory here.

Ekaterina Alexandrova v Shuai Peng Predictions & Preview

34th-ranked Ekaterina Alexandrova will be up against Shuai Peng in her second round having never faced each other before this. Alexandrova was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Katerina Siniakova in her opener while Peng needed three sets to get past Lin Zhu.

Peng was once ranked 14th in the world, but has strangely been of the boil off late. What would be even more disconcerting about her performances were her injury issues that saw her retire from matches on three separate occasions last season.

Alexandrova, on the other hand, looks to be in the form of her life with her career-best ranking to her name. And it was down to one of her best tennis seasons in 2019 which saw her win a title at Limoges and a 44-27 record last season. She will be a heavy favourite here and to win in straight sets.

Tip: Alexandrova to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)

Zarina Diyas v Anna Blinkova Predictions & Preview

Zarina Diyas holds a 2-1 edge over Anna Blinkova on head to head while in more recent times it is 1-1. It’s been an interesting start for Diyas who has played in an ITF tournament in Hong Kong before this and won the title there before following it up with an easy first round win. All of those wins came in straight sets.

Blinkova, on the other hand, became the only player this tournament to defeat a seeded player in the first round. She overcame a set deficit to beat Belinda Bencic in three. This could turn out to be a ripper too, going to the third set.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
