Amanda Anisimova v Eugenie Bouchard Head to Head

This will be the first time that the 25th-ranked American will be facing the 262nd-ranked Bouchard at a competitive level of tennis.

Anisimova Makes it Two Straight-Set Wins in a Row

While all the attention is focussed on Serena Williams, and not surprisingly so, Amanda Anisimova is quietly going about her business in an effective manner. She has had a couple of reasonably, good-quality opponents in the tournament so far but both times, Anisimova has won in straight sets.

In her opener, Anisimova defeated Kateryna Kozlova 6-3, 6-4 and showed improvement in disposing off Daria Kasatkina, a former world number 10 in her second round. She won 6-2, 6-4. Anisimova needed just an hour and 14 minutes to win her second round match, taking advantage of her opponent’s poor serve and later admitted she enjoyed the use of her variety during the match.

Anisimova also said she had been wary of Kasatkina’s tricks and did well to stay in rhythm with them and when she got a chance, she pushed her opponent back. The American, who returned to tennis following a withdrawal from the US Open after her father’s untimely death, had played just five matches since the 2019 Wimbledon last year. She would be mighty pleased with the way she has started off this year.

Speaking of being pleased with starts, Eugenie Bouchard would be in the same boat, if not feeling even better. Once ranked fifth in the world, the Canadian has fallen to 262th in the world because of her consistently poor form and fitness issues but her start to 2020 has been much to write about.

Having last won a WTA tournament in 2014, she began the year having fallen to a ranking she last saw in 2012. However, two matches into the year, the signs of why she was so highly rated by the media and fans alike were all there to see.

Her opponents might not have been the strongest, but winning in straight sets against Kirsten Flipkens and then the seeded Caroline Garcia should fill her with as much confidence on the court as she has often shown off it. And while Anisimova would be a tough nut to crack, an in-form Bouchard would back herself to push the American.

Amanda Anisimova v Eugenie Bouchard Predictions & Tips

Bookmakers are offering 1/3 for an Anisimova victory which are short odds to be honest given Bouchard’s form. Anisimova should still win but it could go down to be less one-sided match than those odds represent and an under/over games market looks the best one to go for here.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
