Andrey Rublev v Miomir Kecmanović Head to Head
This will be the first match between Andrey Rublev and Miomir Kecmanović at the highest level.
Rublev Needing a Second Win on the Same Day
Rublev started off his pre-season with an appearance at the Mubadala Tennis Championships and he started off with a defeat at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas. He did fight hard but came cropped against the Next Gen star and ATP Finals winner, losing in two sets. This was followed by a win over Hyeon Chung in the next match.
While some rustiness was evident in those two matches, he has done well since then at the Qatar Open. After getting a first round bye, Rublev started off with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Mikhail Kukushkin and then followed it up with another rout of Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the quarterfinal earlier today.
The question now is whether he can make it through to his second win of the day as opposed to his opponent, who had played his quarterfinal yesterday itself.
Kecmanović in Fine Fettle
Just 20, Kecmanović has shown glimpses of his class at different times in his short career so far, and came into the season with a 40-33 win-loss record last year. And now, he has already gotten better of the third seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga apart from registering two other crushing wins.
What would be particularly awe-inspiring going into this semifinal is his virtual cakewalk against Marton Fucsovics yesterday before the weather changed for the worse. He completed a smashing 6-2, 6-0 in that match, following on from the 7-6, 6-1 win against Tsonga and 6-4, 6-2 against Jordan Thompson.
This is Kecmanović’s second semifinal in a tournament since last year and he looks likely to make it count.
