Dominic Thiem v Alext Bolt Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players, who have never met on the tour.
Thiem Hoping For a Deep Run Outside of Clay
Clay Court expert Dominic Thiem has often been earmarked as the obvious successor to the ‘King of Clay” Rafael Nadal, and has lived up to this billing, being a finalist the last two years at the French Open and performed well at the Masters 1000s held on the clay in recent times.
However, in recent years and specifically in 2019, the Austrian has proven himself to be a contender outside of clay, particularly on the hard courts. Thiem won the Indian Wells Masters 1000 as well as the Beijing Open, both on the hard courts and was a runner-up to Tsitsipas on the indoor courts at the ATP year-end Finals, in London.
Not having gone past the fourth round at the Australian Open, Thiem will be hoping for a deeper run this time around.
While the 2020 season did not get off to the best of starts, with a less than optimal ATP Cup for the Austrian, he looked strong in his opener against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino and will hope to carry that form forward.
Bolt Wins Marathon Opener
Aussie Alex Bolt has been on the tour for a few years now, but his successes have been confined primarily to the Challengers.
Buoyed on by home crowds and familiar conditions, Bolt tends to do well Down Under. He made the third round of the Australian Open last year defeating Jack Sock and Giles Simon en route, and was a semi-finalist at Adelaide last week.
Bolt played a marathon first round here in Melbourne, defeating Spanish veteran Albert Ramos-Vinalos in five sets and will be looking for continued success here on.
Dominic Thiem v Alext Bolt Predictions & Tips
Thiem comes into the match as a strong favorite, given the vast difference in both players’ recent form and current rankings.
Despite his recent good run of form and being in familiar conditions, the ask is uphill for Bolt here against a player of the stature of Thiem.
Expect a straight sets win for Thiem.
