Egor Gerasimov v Paolo Lorenzi Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 27-year-old man from Belarus, and his Italian opponent, eleven years his senior.
Gerasimov Enjoyed Career Breakthrough in 2019
Gerasimov has been a professional for almost a decade, but his career appeared to have plateaued until he had something of a breakthrough last year, claiming the Guzzini Challenger title in Italy, winning his first Grand Slam match at the US Open, and then reaching the semi-finals of the St. Petersburg Open, beating Matteo Berrettini of Italy in the process, all within the space of two months.
He went on to beat John Isner in Chengdu, and entered the top 100 for the first time.
This year his results to date have been mixed. He failed to qualify for the main draw in Doha, and lost in the first round of the challenger event in Bendigo, Australia. However, he did manage to beat Casper Ruud of Norway in five sets in the first round of the Australian Open, a man ranked some 50 places higher than him in the standings, before he was well beaten by Alexander Zverev of Germany.
Lorenzi, a Late Career Bloomer
At an age when many tennis professionals were hanging up their racquets, Lorenzi enjoyed the greatest successes of his career, win his one senior ATP title, the Austrian Open in 2016, and, in the following year, reaching two other finals, the Open events in Ecuador, and Umag, Croatia.
He also reached a career high ranking of 33, and recorded his best ever performance at a Grand Slam, reaching the last 16 of the US Open in 2017.
Since then his form has deserted him somewhat, and age has begun to catch up with him, although he can still produce the occasional run of good results, reaching the third round at Flushing Meadows last August.
He failed to reach the main draw at the Australian Open, losing to Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic in the second round of qualifying, and, since then, was beaten in the first round of the Challenger event in Thailand, defeated by Sasi Kumar Mekund of India, ranked some 150 places below him in the rankings.

This is match between a man who should be approaching the prime of his career and another who is now at the veteran stage. Gerasimov has age and form on his side, and, unless the Italian can summon past glories, the seeded player should win.
