Grigor Dimitrov v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 28-year-old Bulgarian, and the French player, who is three years younger than him.

Dimitrov Hoping to Continue Recovery in 2020

Dimitrov has had a see-saw last few years, reaching a career high of three at the end of 2017, before a combination of loss of form and injury saw him plummet down the rankings. A run to the semi-finals of the US Open last year helped arrest the decline, and now he is back up to 23 in the world, with ambitions to go higher.

His record in 2020, though, has been mixed so far. Playing for Bulgaria in the ATP Cup, he beat Dan Evans of Great Britain and Radu Albot of Moldova in the group phases, but then was beaten in three sets by David Goffin of Belgium.

However, having beaten Juan Ignacio Londero of Argentina in the first round in Melbourne, he then suffered a surprise second round loss at the hands of the American Tommy Paul, losing a five set battle to the world number 70.

Barrere, French Replacement for Moldovan Albot

Barrere was not originally scheduled to take part in this tournament, but was drafted in when the Moldovan Albot had to withdraw.

The 25 year old has never won a senior ATP title, but he has had some success on the Challenger tour, reaching three finals last year, all of them in France, winning two of them, in Quimper, and Lille. He also won the doubles title in Bordeaux, partnered by Quentin Halys.

He began 2020 in Doha where he qualified for the main draw, only to lose to compatriot Jeremy Chardy in the first round. He then also qualified for the Adelaide Open, but suffered another first round defeat, this time to the American Sam Querry.

However, he did reach the second round in Melbourne, beating Mohamed Safwat of Egypt, before his challenge was ended by Argentina’s Guido Pella.

He earned his meeting with Dimitrov by beating Joao Sousa of Portugal in straight sets in their first round match on Monday.

Grigor Dimitrov v Gregoire Barrere Predictions & Tips

Dimitrov, although he has not had the best start to 2020 so far, should have too much power for his French opponent, and a straight sets win for the Bulgarian is the most likely outcome.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in straight sets: 5/6 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
