Steve Johnson continued his good form at the New York Open by beating the fifth seed USA player, Tennys Sandgren while another countryman Jack Sock lost his opener.
Johnson needed three sets, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6(3) to win his first round match. Sock who had made a wild card entry to the tournament lost to Marcos Giron in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Giron will be playing against the French, Ugo Humbert, next.
Meanwhile, Miomir Kecmanovic won against Tommy Paul by winning convincingly over him with a score of 6-4, 6-2. The sixth seed will play a qualifier against either Danilo Petrovic or Paolo Lorenzi.

If Kecmanovic manages to reach the semi-finals, it will be his second this season after achieving the same feat during the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha during the season’s first week.
In the Argentina Open, the countryman Federico Delbonis beat Hugo Dellien of Bolivia, 1-6, 6-3 and 7-5 to advance to the next round. His opponent in the next round is Diego Schwartzmann who advanced by beating the Chilean Christian Garin.

Meanwhile, Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay also qualified for the next round by beating Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Thiago Monteiro completed a similarly convincing victory over Jaume Munar with a score of 6-3, 6-3. Monteiro will be facing Borna Coric of Croatia in the next round. Coric is the fourth seed in the tournament.
Casper Ruud beat Pablo Andujar 6-2 and 6-3 to also advance to the next round where he might either play against Marco Cecchinato or Roberto Carballes.
The Argentina Open which is being held in the capital city of Buenos Aires is being played on a clay surface. The total prize money for this edition of the tournament is $611,420 and it is scheduled to end this Sunday.
