Stefanos Tsitsipas v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between both players.

Tsitsipas Aiming For Clinical Outing

World number six Stefanos Tsitsipas had a very good run in 2019, and is among the leading members of the ‘Next Gen’ that is expected to take over the baton from the Big Three in the foreseeable future.

2019 saw him make the semi-finals of a major (Australian Open), finals of a Masters 1000 (Madrid), winning titles at Marseille and Estoril, as well as defeating each of the Big Three during the year.

With a lot expected from him in 2020, a sub-optimal ATP Cup and a third round loss at the Australian Open will qualify as an underwhelming start to the season for him.

Tsitsipas did not have the best of starts here at Rotterdam against upcoming Pole Hubert Hurkacz, where he lost the first set in a tiebreaker and was then down a break in the second and needed a medical timeout too. However, the Greek did well to recover and record a convincing win thereafter.

With top seed Daniil Medvedev eliminated along with other highly seeded players like Fabio Fognini and Denis Shapovalov, Tsitsipas will fancy his chances and look for more routine outings setting him up well for a successful weekend.

Bedene Looking To Break Through

Veteran Bedene has been on the tour for a considerable amount of time and although he has put in several solid performances, has never managed to maintain the consistency to move him up further in the rankings and has continued to remain just outside the top 50 in the world.

The Slovakian has reached one ATP final in each of the last three years but not managed to win his first title yet.

Bedene’s 2020 has again not seen the performances he needs to push himself over and above the status quo, with some positive wins against Alexander Bublik in Doha and Benoit Paire in the first round this week, but has ended in plenty of round of 32 losses.

After a first round win against James Duckworth in a tight match at the Australian Open, Bedene was defeated by Ernst Gulbis in the next round in Melbourne.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Aljaz Bedene Predictions & Tips

Tsitsipas seemed to have recovered well after being down in the opener against Hurkacz. Expect him to pick up from where he left off at the end of the match and get into a rhythm early on.

The Greek to win in two competitive sets seems the most likely outcome.
