David Goffin v Jannik Sinner Head to Head
This is the first meeting between both players.
Goffin Coming Off Tricky Opener
Belgian David Goffin has had a roller coaster last two seasons. He was ranked as high as number seven in the world in late 2017, where he was runner-up to Grigor Dimitrov at the ATP Tour Finals, having defeated Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the same tournament.
The next season and a bit saw a series of injuries, coupled with poor form and a drop to number 30 in the world rankings.
However, Goffin made a strong comeback in the latter half of 2019, where he was a finalist at the ATP 500 in Halle and at the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. He was also a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon.
2020 got off to a good start for the Belgian, where he defeated Rafael Nadal at the ATP Cup. But, he will be disappointed with his third round loss to Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open after being up a set and a break.
A strong start to the week at Montpellier last week was a positive sign for Goffin, defeating Alexander Bublik and Pierre-Hugues Herbert convincingly. However, his campaign was cut short in the semi-finals by the in-form Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
Goffin’s Rotterdam campaign was off to a tricky start, prevailing in a tough three-setter against Dutchman Robin Haase.

Sinner Hoping To Repeat End of 2019 Form
Little known Italian teenager Jannik Sinner sprung on the scene last Fall when he was an ATP 250 semi-finalist at the age of 18. He was a semi-finalist at the ATP 250 in Antwerp where he defeated top-seed veteran Frenchman Gael Monfils en route.
Sinner followed this with an impressive run at the ATP Next Gen finals where he won the title in Milan in November 2019. The Italian defeated top 20 ranked and heavy favorite Aussie Alex De Minaur in the title round.
Sinner’s 2020 has not had the momentum from the end of last season yet however, as he has faced underwhelming losses in the second round of the Australian Open and in the opener at Montpellier.
The young Italian received a walkover in the first round here at Rotterdam against Radu Albot and will look to make the most of his fresh legs here on.
David Goffin v Jannik Sinner Predictions & Tips
A crucial match for both players on the cards; Goffin will hope for a good run this week and ideally not want another match like his opener just yet, while Sinner will look to regain the form that won him the ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan.
It feels like it will be a close match and eventually the Belgian’s experience may just prevail.
