Simona Halep v Jennifer Brady Head to Head
Halep leads the series 2-0, having won in Toronto in three sets last year, and most recently at the 2020 Australian Open in straight sets.
Halep is Dubai’s Comeback Queen
For the second day running, Simona Halep pulled the rabbit out of the hat, this time without jeopardizing her chances of winning as she came from a set down to overcome the challenge of Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka.
Halep who needed to save a match-point in Wednesday’s highly entertaining contest against Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, broke big-hitting Sabalenka’s serve six times out of a possible eight chances. There was also a marked improvement in her first serve delivery, winning 72% of the points (12% more than in her error-filled display against Jabeur).
The Romanian has returned to action this week for the first time since losing to Garbine Muguruza in the semifinals of the Australian Open. She has yet to win a title this year, but she is a former champion in Dubai, and there is a genuine chance of returning to the winner’s circle this weekend.

Brady Thriving As A Qualifier
Jennifer Brady is slowly emerging as a contender to win the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship title this week, and at the rate in which she has nailed down some of the biggest seeds, you wouldn’t put it past her to achieve that feat.
She has recorded three successive top-20 wins, besting the likes of Elina Svitolina, Marketa Vondrousova and Garbine Muguruza – the player she beat to reach her first Premier semifinal.
Overall, Brady has now made three career WTA semifinals, and has become one of the most improved players at this embryonic 2020 season. She is 11-3 for the season at all levels, with Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep and Svetlana Kuznetsova being the only players to have beaten her so far – a further indication of the caliber of opponents it takes to beat her nowadays.
Simona Halep v Jennifer Brady Predictions & Tips
This is the sort of match in which Halep cannot afford to give Brady a fast start. So far the Romanian hasn’t quite looked near her best and has elected to play catch-up in her first two matches this week, and if she gives the American the luxury of a one-set lead and the freedom to take charge of proceedings from the baseline, Brady will not hesitate to go for the kill.
