Nineteen-year old Felix Auger-Aliassime has a strong 2019 which saw him reach three ATP finals. The young Canadian recorded impressive wins throughout the year against players of the calibre of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios and Grigor Dimitrov among others, and left one with a lot to expect in 2020.
After a disappointing Australian Open and an early loss in Montpellier, the Canadian had a much better run at the Rotterdam ATP 500 last week.
Auger-Aliassime started shakily against Jan-Lennard Struff in the opener, but recovered to record convincing wins against Grigor Dimitrov, Aljaz Bedene and Pablo Carreno Busta to make the finals against Gael Monfils.
Frenchman Monfils has been in rollicking form winning Montpellier the week before, and then defended his title in clinical fashion at Rotterdam in the final against Auger-Aliassime. Despite the loss, it was a very positive week for the nineteen-year-old.
Auger-Aliassime came to Marseile with a good run at Rotterdam behind him, but also some tired legs. One wondered how much he still had in the tank after a long February of tennis already.
The first two rounds have not been easy for the Canadian as in the opener he had to save match points against Italian Stefano Travaglia and then again in his next round against Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Auger-Aliassime will be hoping for a more routine outing this round.

Can Gerasimov Continue Strong Run?
Belarusian Egor Gerasimov has been on the tour since 2014. Having met with success at the Challengers and the ITF Futures, he never managed to quite replicate that in the main field.
Gerasimov had a good run of form at the end of last season, and this season seems to be his best start thus far.
The 27-year-old Belarusian was a finalist at the Maharashtra Open in Pune, and has followed it by a good run this week.
Gerasimov seemed to be in good touch in the early rounds here at Marseille, and topped it by a clinical showing to oust world number ten David Goffin.

Both players have been in good form and this will be a hard fought clash. However, despite Gerasimov’s good run, Auger-Aliassime will start as a strong favorite, given his more complete game.
A tight match ahead of us, with Auger-Aliassime winning in two close sets the most likely outcome.
