Casper Ruud v Alejandro Tabilo Head to Head

This will be the first match between Ruud and Tabilo.

Ruud Resumes Campaign After Shock Loss

At Buenos Aires, Ruud won his maiden ATP title by defeating Pedro Sousa in the final, dropping just one set in the entire competition and going on to become the best-ranked Norwegian player in the history of the sport. However that joy soon turned to dismay when Ruud was taken down in straight sets by Gianluca Mager in the first round of the Rio Open, losing 7-6, 7-5.

It’s been bit of a roller-coaster for Ruud this season who has played five tournaments, won one title as mentioned above, made it through to twos in the ATP Cup against John Isner and Fabio Fognini no less, but lost in the first rounds at Auckland, Australian Open and Rio.

The talent is very evident to see, as was on display even last season as he made it to three tournament semifinals and one final but what Ruud will be hunting for is consistency. And a possible shot at making it to the top 30 of the ATP Rankings. With a low-ranked wildcard entrant up against him, he has a chance to kick-start this Santiago Open campaign with a quick win.

Been a Big Change from Last Year for Tabilo

Not so long ago, at the start of the 2019 season, Tabilo was 613th in the world. Today he’s 166th, his career-best, and rising and as a 22-year-old, he has age on his side too.

What’s interesting to note is Tabilo has achieved all this without a single title win on the Challengers circuit; all of his three career titles having come at the Futures circuit. Tabilo first shot to fame, however, earlier this year when he was a qualifier at the Australian Open, won his three matches to make the main draw and then registered his first Grand Slam main draw win.

Tabilo lost in the second round to John Isner but that pushed him into the top 200 of the rankings. A few underwhelming results followed at the Newport Beach, Dallas and Cleveland Challengers, which meant when he entered this competition on the back of a wildcard, not too much was really expected out of him.

However, Tabilo crushed the Italian veteran Paolo Lorenzi in the first round in straight sets to set up this meeting.
