John Isner v Tommy Paul Head to Head

This is the second meeting between both players. Their only meeting was back in 2017 on the outdoor hard courts of the Cincinnati Masters, which was won by Isner in straight sets.

Poor Start To 2020 For Isner

Ranked within the top ten of the ATP rankings at the end of 2018, it was a mix of injuries and poor form for John Isner in 2019 whose ranking fell to number 20 by the end of the year.

2020 has not got off to the best of starts for big serving Isner either.  He had a dismal ATP cup where he lost his  matches to Fabio Fognini, Daniil Medvedev and Casper Ruud respectively. Isner had a much improved performance at the ASB Classic leading to the Australian Open, where he was a losing semi-finalist to ultimate champion, Ugo Humbert from France.

A recurring foot injury in his third round match at the Australian Open resulted in Isner pulling out of the tournament, and it was followed by an opening round defeat at the New York Open to Aussie Jordan Thompson.

Isner has looked in better touch this week, though he is yet to face stiff opposition. Straight set wins against Mischa Zverev and Marcos Giron will have done a world of good to his confidence going into the latter stages here in Acapulco.

Paul Coming Off Biggest Win of Career Against Zverev

22-year-old young American Tommy Paul has had a dream start to 2020 as he continues to improve and has moved up to number 66 in the ATP rankings already. Paul was the winner of three tournaments at the ATP Challenger level in 2019 and has looked confident on the main tour thus far this year.

Beginning the year as a qualifier in Adelaide, Paul won five matches before being defeated in the semi-finals by Lloyd Harris of South Africa. The American made the third round of the Australian Open, which is the best major performance of his short career thus far. On his way to the round of 32 in Melbourne, Paul defeated 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov in a thrilling five set marathon.

The young American made the round of 16 thereafter at the Delray Beach Open last week and qualified for the main draw here in Acapulco. After a three set win against fellow countryman Mackenzie McDonald in the opener at Mexico, Paul recorded possibly the greatest win of his career thus far defeating second seed Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the second round 6-3,6-4.

The young American will be up against the big serving Isner, and a lot will depend on how well he handles the Isner serve.

John Isner v Tommy Paul Predictions & Tips

An interesting match ahead of us, as Isner is getting back to form and Paul has been in good touch. A lot of the match depends on the Isner serve and it looks like he is getting back to consistent serving levels.

Expect a tight match, with Isner inching past Paul in a decider.
