Cristian Garin v Thiago Seyboth Wild Head to Head

This will be the first match between the top seeded Garin and the 182nd-ranked Seyboth Wild.

Garin Pushed to the Brink

The Chilean battled past a bagelling in the second set to come back and win his second round match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in two hours to move to the quarterfinals. Things looked to be going well for Garin, who was on a nine-match winning streak, when he cruised past his opponent in the first set, winning 6-2.

It was in the second set Garin fell away dramatically as the home crowd looked on in dismay. He was broken thrice and Fokina, for once looked like he was a top-20 player and not otherwise.

Garin clawed back into the match in the final set and had an opportunity to serve it out at 5-4. He was broken. Then again, at 6-5. And he was broken for the second time. However, now with the crowd having found its voice again, he did not have a lot of difficulties in ensuring the final set tie-breaker would be his and completed his 10th successive victory.

With back to back titles under his belt already, Garin will now take on a surprise quarter-finalist in the form of Seyboth Wild, a 19-year-old from Brazil.

Seyboth Wild Improving Every Tournament

The one thing Seyboth Wild has in common with Garin is he too had recently defeated Fokina recently, at Rio, to move to the next round but that was a feisty and ill-tempered match which saw the two players get into each other’s physical space at times. Later he went on to lose the second round of that tournament to Borna Coric, having earlier failed to qualify for the Cordoba Open.

Which makes this showing a much-improved one from his previous two ones on clay this year. Seyboth Wild has already defeated Facundo Bagnis in the first round in three sets, and followed it up with a shock win over Argentine Juan Londero Ignacio. Adding to his confidence will be the fact it was a straight-set win despite having gone into the encounter as a distant second-favourite, at 7/4.

Can he trouble the much higher-ranked and in-form Garin though? Sounds like a doubtful one but he would at least hope to show the same kind of sparkle he has so far in the past two tournaments.

Cristian Garin v Thiago Seyboth Wild Predictions & Tips

It looks like Garin should win this in straight sets but it wasn’t too different last match too and he was taken to a third. However, Garin should not suffer any more brain-fades like the one in the second set and win in two.

Tip: Garin to win in straight sets: 4/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
