Casper Ruud v Federico Delbonis Head to Head

The players have met once in their careers, on the clay courts of Sao Paulo in 2017. Delbonis prevailed in straight sets against then relatively unknown 18-year-old Ruud.

After Maiden ATP Title, Ruud Looking At Another Successful Run

Casper Ruud had a hard-earned 2019 where he broke into the top 50 and was a finalist on the clay courts of Houston. Coming in 2020 with higher expectations, Ruud has thus far met the standards. He began the year by beating John Isner and Fabio Fognini in the ATP Cup, before losing to Daniil Medvedev.

First round defeats at the ASB Classic in Auckland and at the Australian Open in Melbourne would have upset some of the momentum Ruud was hoping for after the good ATP Cup start.

However, Ruud moved back into top gear at Buenos Aires where he won his maiden ATP title by defeating Pedro Sousa in the final, dropping just one set in the entire competition and going on to become the highest ranked Norwegian player in tennis history.

However, Ruud was unable to maintain momentum, and lost in straight sets to Gianluca Mager in the first round of the Rio Open the following week. The Norwegian started well here this week in Chile, agains little known Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, and will be hoping for a successful week overall here in Santiago.

Delbonis Off To A Poor Start in 2020

Left handed Argentine Federico Delbonis has been on the tour for most of the last decade and was ranked as high as world number 33, in 2016. The winner of two ATP titles in 2015-2016, as well as the Davis Cup (in 2016), Delbonis is not quite the player he was as he approaches the age of 30.

Delbonis had a dismal 2018-2019 season that saw his results below his potential, and he did not get off to the best of starts in 2020 either. Poor runs Down Under at both Adelaide and Melbourne (Australian Open)  set off the season on a poor note and the trend seemed to continue in February, with poor performances at Cordoba, Buenos Aires and Rio to follow.

The Argentine has recorded two consecutive wins here at Acapulo, against Martin Klizan and Salvatore Caruso and that is the best performance for him for the year, having entered six ATP tournaments thus far.  Up against Ruud, although Delbonis is not the favorite, he will be hoping to put up a better effort than he has for most of this season and bank on his relative experience in the match-up.

Casper Ruud v Federico Delbonis Predictions & Tips

Ruud is very comfortable on the clay courts and has reached as high as number 38 in the world in the rankings. He also won his maiden ATP title earlier this month in Argentina, and thus is in form

With Delbonis still not managing to kickstart the 2020 season favorably, Ruud starts as a strong favorite and is expected to win in two hard fought sets.

Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 6/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
