Albert Ramos Vinolas v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head
The pair have met four times on the tour so far. The Spaniard leads the tally at 3-1 with all the four matches having been played on the clay courts. Ramos Vinolas has won at Bastad in 2017, qualifying round at Munich as well as Genoa Challange last year. Whereas Monteiro’s only win over Ramos Vinolas came in 2018 at Quito.
Ramos Vinolas Looking to Find Consistency in His Game
The 32-year-old Spaniard had a very impressive 2019 season. He won his second career title and first in three years at Gstaad last year. His win-loss record for the year was 49-34, his best in terms of the number of matches won since 2014. He also reached two further semi-finals and one final during the year.
But he ran out of steam by the end of the season where he finished by losing five out of the last six matches of the season.
This year he started the season well with quarter-final runs at Adelaide and Cordoba. But followed it up with a couple of early-round losses at Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. If he gets through this match he will potentially be facing the second seed, Ruud Casper, in the semi-finals.

Monteiro Close to Achieving His Career Best Ranking Once Again
Currently ranked number 88 in the world, the Brazilian will be looking to achieve his career-best ranking this season. His best ranking was back 74 back in 2017. He hasn’t seen much success at the tour level but has been a successful operator at the Challenger level. He won three titles at the Challenger level last season and had a solid 49-30 win-loss record.
Primarily a clay court operator, the Brazilian number one player has a very strong baseline game. The southpaw’s style is very similar to Rafael Nadal, where he generates a lot of topspin on his shots. He has had a decent 2020 season so far with a quarter-final appearance at Auckland as well as in Rio De Janeiro. He has also won a challenger title in Uruguay.
Albert Ramos Vinolas v Thiago Monteiro Predictions & Tips
This is a match between two clay-court specialists who haven’t been the most consistent this season. A semi-final appearance for either of them will do their confidence a world of good. The match is likely to go all the way to three sets.
