Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will make a doubles appearance at the 2020 Indian Wells Masters. Both have been awarded wildcards for the competition.
In a year where some of the top singles players could also participate in the tennis doubles at the Olympics which will be played in August in Tokyo, Djokovic and Nadal will be partnering with their countrymen to try and get used to it.
Djokovic will go into the Indian Wells Masters competition with Serbia’s Viktor Troicki while Nadal will partner fellow Spaniard Marc Lopez in a bid to get some valuable doubles practice under their belt. The Serb world number one had also been a part of the doubles draw at the 2019 Indian Wells Open, partnering Fabio Fognini and making it to the semifinal in the process.

Interestingly, Nadal has played with Lopez in the past, partnering and winning the Indian Wells in 2010 and 2012. They are the also the defending gold-medallists at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Earlier this year, Djokovic had also played in the ATP Cup doubles before partnering with Marin Cilic at the Dubai Tennis Championships. While he – and his partner Troicki – won both the doubles matches at the ATP Cup, he was knocked out in the first round in Dubai.
Apart from making it to the semifinal at the Indian Wells, Djokovic also did the same in Dubai, partnering his brother Marko in the competition.
Nadal has played a couple of doubles matches too, winning both of them in partnership with Pabla Carreno Busta in the ATP Cup. Last year, Nadal’s only doubles matches had come at the Davis Cup and Laver Cup, while he didn’t play a single match on the doubles circuit in 2018.
