Casper Ruud v Thiago Seyboth Wild Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the world number 38, Ruud, and his opponent, currently 182 in the ATP standings.
Golden Opportunity for Second Career Title for Ruud
Already by some distance the most successful player Norway has ever produced, Ruud underlined his potential by reaching the final of the US Men’s Clay Court Championships last April.
Although he lost on that occasion to Christian Garin, it was always a matter of time when, and not, if he would finally claim an ATP title, and that prediction was realised a few weeks ago when he beat Pedro Sousa to win the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires.
And now he has another golden opportunity to make it two here in Santiago, after reaching the final without dropping a set, beating first local wildcard Alejandro Tabilo, and then the number 7 seed, Federico Delbonis, of Argentina, to set up a semi-final with Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain, a man he had not beaten in their four previous meetings.
Yet, despite that weight of history against him, he took the first set on a tie break and then broke the Spaniard twice in the second to close out the match.
Teenager Seyboth Wild in Maiden ATP Final
For the Brazilian teenager, who won the US Open junior singles title in 2018, this is another milestone in his burgeoning career. It follows his ATP main draw debut at the Brasil Open that same year, his maiden Challenger title in Guayanquil last November, and now, barely four months later, his first ATP final at the age of 19.
Whilst few would have given him much chance of getting this far at the start of the week, he defied expectations in the first two rounds beating two Argentine opponents, both ranked higher than him, beginning with the number 131 Facundo Bagnis, and then the number five seed, Juan Ignacio Londero.
He had some good fortune, in his quarter final when his opponent, the number one seed Garin, was forced to retire, although Seyboth Wild was a set up at the time, but he then thrashed Renzo Olivo in their semi-final on Saturday, dropping just three games to the Argentine qualifier.
Casper Ruud v Thiago Seyboth Wild Predictions & Tips
Although Seyboth Wild has performed remarkably to get this far, Ruud must start the heavy favourite to clinch his second ATP title in less than a month. He is only two years older than the Brazilian teenager, but he is already battle-hardened on the main tour, and now knows what is needed to win an event.
Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 4/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
