Jannik Sinner v Sem Verbeek Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between the pair. They earlier met at the Aptos Challenger last year. Italian prevailed in three sets on that occasion.
Sinner’s Form Picking Up After Poor Start to the Season
The 18-year-old Italian was one of the best youngsters to breakthrough last season. He started the 2019 season outside the top 550 in the world rankings. But in a sensational year, he won five ITF and Challenger level titles and went on to win the Next Gen ATP Finals in front of his home crowd as well.
He ended the season with a win-loss record of 65-24 and ended the season as the world number 78. But he started the 2020 season poorly and lost four out of his first five matches of the season. His form did improve lately and the talented Italian reached the quarter-finals at Rotterdam and gave a tough fight to Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16 at Marseille.
He primarily has points to defend from the challenger level events for the first half of the season as most of his strong ATP performances came in the second half of the last season. If Sinner can pick up his form now and perform consistently for the next couple of months, he could well find himself breaking into the top 50 rankings this summer.

Qualifier Verbeek Has Beaten Two Higher Ranked Opponents Already
World number 978 Sam Verbeek has already beaten two players higher than him in terms of rankings at the event. In the first round here he beat American, Maxime Cressy who is more than 800 ranking spots higher than him.
The 25-year-old Dutch player is an unknown quantity on the tour. He has never played a main draw ATP match in his career and has never won a title at lower levels either. The southpaw only played 24 matches last season and had missed a total of four months of action in the season due to injuries.
Jannik Sinner v Sem Verbeek Predictions & Tips
Sinner should progress easily in this match. He has finally picked up some form this season. Going back to Challengers and winning a few matches is exactly what his confidence needs right now. Verbeek has done well to reach this stage but is unlikely to cause any trouble to the Italian.
