Johanna Konta v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 28-year-old British player, and the Czech player, who is seven years her junior.

Konta Back from the Brink of Defeat v Potapova

Konta came perilously close to being knocked out of the event in Monterrey on Friday night, having had to save two match points in her quarter final with the Russian teenager Anastasia Potapova. In a match played in windy conditions, Konta lost the first set on a tie break, before breaking back to level the match in the second.

However, she lost her serve early in the third set, and the Russian raced to a 5-2 lead, earning the first match point in Konta’s next service game.

Konta saved that, took the game and then, crucially broke down to force the match into another tie-breaker where Potapova again had match point. The British number one though held her nerve, saved that, and then, when she had her opportunity, converted her own match point to win after two hours and 40 minutes.

She is now into her first semi-final since last year’s French Open and, after earlier hard won victories in this tournament over Kim Clijsters and Tatjana Maria, can take some satisfaction from how she has battled through this far.

Bouzkova’s Best Performance since Rogers Cup

Bouzkova, who won the 2014 girls’ singles at the US Open, came into this event with no form to speak of this year to date.

Her season began in Australia, where she qualified for the main draw in Brisbane, only to suffer a first round defeat to Madison Keys, and then was beaten in her next two events, in Hobart and Melbourne, in the first round as well.

Bouzkova did reach the third round of the ITF tournament in Nicholasville, USA, but, last week, suffered another first round defeat at the Mexico Open at the hands of the German, Tatjana Maria.

Her confidence would not have been high coming into this event, but she beat two Slovenian players, Kristina Kucova, and then Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, to set up a quarter final with the Chinese woman Yafan Wang, seeded eight.

And she produced her best tennis of the week to defeat her higher ranked opponent and reach her first WTA final semi-final since last year’s Rogers Cup.

Johanna Konta v Marie Bouzkova Predictions & Tips

Konta has not had it easy in any of her matches this week, and Bouzkova is likely to offer her another stern test. However, the British player has been grinding out the results, and will start the favourite to make it through to the final.
