Petra Martic v Alison van Uytvanck Head to Head

This will be the second match between the world number 15 Petra Martic and the 57th-ranked Alison van Uytvanck. In their only previous meeting Martic defeated van Uytvanck at the 2018 Australian Open in straight sets.

Martic’s Had a Poor Start

It wasn’t the best beginning for the Croat, who had entered the year on the back of back to back titles last two years. Her form showed a remarkable dip across the first three tournaments she played this season, with second round losses at the Auckland Open and Australian Open and a opening defeat at the Hua Hin Open.

It looked like Martic had turned the corner at Dubai where she managed to make it to the semifinal. It included wins over Barbora Strycova and Anett Kontaveit and a stiff 7-6, 7-6 defeat to the in-form Elena Rynakina in the final four.

However, another first round defeat followed at the Doha Open to Strycova after which she hasn’t played any exhibition tournaments either. An interesting comeback to tennis beckons for Martic who is one of three players ranked in the top 20 featuring in the Palermo Open.

Speaking to the media in the lead-up to the tournament, Martic set her expectations when she said:

“I’m just going to try to enjoy myself. To be back on the court right now is really just a privilege without thinking about any results or any goals or focused on numbers or anything else.”

Van Uytvanck’s Had Her Own Struggles

Interestingly, even van Uytvanck had a solid previous season in which she tripled her WTA tournament win tally. She clinched the titles at Budapest and Tashkent but then went on to start off quite slowly this year.

There were opening round defeats at Hobart and Melbourne, and that was followed by a second round in St. Petersburg to Petra Kvitova. After failing to qualify for the Dubai Open, and crashing out in the second round in Doha to Rybakina, van Uytvanck’s best showing of the season came in the indoor courts of Lyon.

A win over Caroline Garcia saw her through to the semifinal there before she went down fighting in three tiebreakers to Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin. Like Martic, van Uytvanck hasn’t played any competitive tennis since then.

Petra Martic v Alison van Uytvanck Prediction & Tip

Martic is 2/5 to win this match but it might not be as straightforward as those odds suggest given the break in the proceedings – which is the same for both players but it evens things out a little bit. We reckon we will see three sets in this one.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 13/8 (bet365)
