Sara Errani v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head
These two players have been in action on plethora of occasions in the past, having played seven matches in all. Errani has won five of those matches, but they haven’t met since 2014 in Dubai and that match was won by Cirstea.
Errani Looking for a Career Turnaround
A finalist at the French Open in 2012, a world number five in 2013 and the sky seemed to be the limit for her at that stage. Unfortunately for Errani, things haven’t gone to plan since then.
She ended the year 2014 outside the top 10, 22nd in 2015, 49th after 2016, before falling to 132nd in 2017. It was also in this season she was suspended by the WTA for two months for failing a doping test, which was later changed to 10 months.
Over the past couple of years, Errani has tried to qualify her way through to tournaments, but has seen very little success. In Auckland, for instance, Errani failed to make the main draw and then at the Australian Open she lost in her first qualifier.
Making it to the Newport Beach Open in January, she won her opening round match but went down easily to Jessica Pegula in the second. At Acapulco, Errani won her qualifiers and the first round but followed it up with three successive losses.

Cirstea Struggling for Wins Too
World number 75 Cirstea, like Errani, hasn’t played since February. Then, she had competed at the Doha Open where she lost to Elena Rybakina in the first round, unable to better her record from the Dubai Open a week ago where she had gone down to Anett Kontaveit in the opener.
Cirstea’s best result this year was a second round progression at the Australian Open where she defeated Barbora Strycova. However, a second round defeat, a narrow one at that though, to Cori Gauff meant she has a 1-4 main draw win-loss record this year.
This comes on the back three very ordinary seasons for Cirstea who has won 69 and lost 74 matches in that period. Her last lower-tier competition win had come in 2016 and she is yet to win a title at any level since.
Sara Errani v Sorana Cirstea Prediction & Tip
Cirstea starts off as a favourite to win this at 8/15 and it’s more or less on expected lines. Errani does, however, prefer playing on clay as her French Open final result shows which could mean a lot more fight that a straightforward win for Cirstea (given her own struggles).
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
