Dayana Yastremska v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head

This will be the first time that the world number 25 Yastremska will be facing Sorribes Tormo in a competitive match.

Yastremska Had Form Going Her Way

The Ukrainian didn’t feature in any of the exhibition tournaments played during the pandemic break but she would hope her form from the start of the season will continue to shine through.

She had started off with a first round loss in Brisbane but then went on to make it to the final at the Adelaide International. A controversial second round defeat at the Australian Open followed, but she followed that up with three wins in the Fed Cup.

Yastremska was a shock upset in round one at the Dubai Open but came back strongly to defeat the Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in Doha. Despite her defeat next match to Garbine Muguruza, her two title wins last year included one on clay in Strasbourg and that should give her a lot of confidence going into the resumption of the season.

Sara Sorribes Tormo Looking to Overturn Poor Season Start

The 23-year-old Tormo is currently ranked 83rd in the world with a career-best of 64 which had come last year. That was down to a consistent appearance in the middle stages of WTA tournaments and a tournament win on the ITF circuit.

Tormo had begun the 2019 season with a quarterfinal at the Auckland Open and then repeated that feat on clay in Bogota. A finalist at Bol, Tormo then played quite a few lower-tier tournaments where she pushed on to the last eight at the very least.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard, her pre-pandemic results this year haven’t gone her way. A first round exit in Shenzhen, another such defeat in Hobart and losses in the opening rounds of Acapulco and Monterrey have been very telling.

Tormo’s only main draw win this year came at the Australian Open before she went down to Anett Kontaveit in the second.

What’s interesting to note is Tormo played in eight matches spread across two exhibition tournaments during the WTA tour suspension and won all of them. Those opponents might have been lower-ranked but she does have some sort of confidence coming into this competition.

Dayana Yastremska v Sara Sorribes Tormo Prediction & Tip

Yastremska is 4/6 favourite to win this match, but Tormo could trouble her on clay. Expect a three-setter in this encounter.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
