World number 18 Marketa Vondrousova will be up against Slovenian teenager Kaja Juvan in their first round match at the 2020 Palermo Open on Tuesday, August 4. Marketa Vondrousova v Kaja Juvan Head to Head
This will be the first match between the former French Open finalist Vondrousova and 19-year-old Juvan.
Vondrousova Hoping to Recapture 2019 Form
While Vondrousova finished 2017 with a 60-12 win-loss record, a lot of those victories had come at the lower tier of the circuit. It was in 2019 she looked like she had finally arrived though when she made it to the final of the French Open.
While she easily lost that match to Ash Barty, her performances at Roland-Garros 2019, which included wins over Carla Suarez Navarro, Anastasija Sevastova, Petra Martic and Jo Konta, propelled her to number 14th in the rankings.
Unfortunately for Vondrousova, she fell in the second round at Eastbourne and then lost her opener at Wimbledon to Madison Brengle before calling off the season because of a wrist injury and subsequent surgery.
The Czech returned this year but to struggling form as she lost her opener at the Australian Open, and then against in St. Petersburg and Doha. Her only performance of note was a quarterfinal in Adelaide where she was at the receiving end of Barty’s solid play again.

Ranked 121st in the world, Juvan has had to qualify for most higher-tiered WTA tournaments and to be fair to her, she has been making a good fist of it.
For example, at the Australian Open, Juvan won all her three qualifiers to make it to the round one – her first main draw appearance at that major – and then won another couple of qualifying rounds in Acapulco too. In fact at the latter, she came back from a set down in her first round match against Venus Williams to win in three.
Her return to tennis following the tennis break has seen her win three rounds of qualifiers in Palermo to make it to the main draw. The big question is whether she can win a round here and try and push herself into the top 100.
Marketa Vondrousova v Kaja Juvan Prediction & Tip
Vondrousova is 1/2 to win this and she should be able to do that given she has been playing a few exhibition tournaments in the lead-up to this competition. While losses to Belinda Bencic and Iga Swiatek will be a concern, she had defeated Petra Kvitova earlier in the Tipsport Elite Trophy.
