World number 25 Dayana Yastremska will take on Italy’s Camila Giorgi in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Palermo Open. Dayana Yastremska v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
This will be the third match between Yastremska and Giorgi, with both players having won one match apiece. The first match at the 2017 Strasbourg Open saw Giorgi win it in three sets but Yastremska came back to make it 1-1 in the 2019 Wimbledon by carving out a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Yastremska Breezing Past Opponents
Yastremska had announced herself to the tour with three WTA titles over the past two seasons, including one at the Strasbourg Open last season on clay. That said, her form on clay wasn’t the best, winning five and losing four of her matches there last season.
Which is why when Yastremska returned to play on the tour earlier this week, from having not featured in any of the exhibition competitions during the break, she has done rather remarkably to make it to the quarterfinals. And it wasn’t just the two wins during the tournament but the manner of those victories.
First she ran past Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-3, 6-4 and then crushed Oceane Dodin 6-2, 6-4 in the second round to cruise through to the last-eight stage.

Former top-30 player Giorgi didn’t play a single match on clay in 2019 but while she hasn’t won any WTA titles on clay, she does have a couple of them at the ITF level. That said, having entered this tournament on the back of having played on clay last in June 2018, not too many gave Giorgi a chance.
However, she first crushed Rebecca Peterson in straight sets in the first round and then saw off the challenge of Kaja Juvan in the second. After lacking rhythm in the first set, Giorgi came back in the next two sets with a lot more solid game than earlier.
She admitted her issue in the first set was the undesired need to finish off points in a quick hurry, and when she changed that around in the second, things also turned around for the Italian.
Against a much more pedigreed opponent like Yastremska though, Giorgi will need to start quicker off the blocks.

Yastremska, unsurprisingly, is 1/2 (bet365) to win this and we reckon she might even win this in straight sets given her form. In fact, as an aside, we reckon Yastremska is a title favourite here.
