Anett Kontaveit v Fiona Ferro Head to Head
While Kontaveit and Ferro haven’t played each other at the highest level, they were involved in a match at the ITF tier in 2016. And Kontaveit had needed three sets to get past Ferro in that one.
Kontaveit Scythes Past Martic to Make the Final
It was expected to be a tight affair between Kontaveit and the top seeded Petra Martic who had shown solid form getting into the final. In fact we were expecting a three-setter but Kontaveit arrived at the party when it really mattered.
Kontaveit absolutely destroyed Martic, winning 6-2, 6-4 to make it to the title-decider, in turn avenging the Dubai International defeat from earlier this season. The match lasted just 79 and only saw Kontaveit get slightly pushed in the second set when she dropped her serve early.
However, the Estonian rallied back to win the break back and then made it a second break to complete the win, needing just 79 minutes to complete the encounter.
She had earlier begun the tournament with a straight-set win over Patricia Maria Tig before both Laura Siegmund and Elisabetta Cocciaretto took her to three sets. However, she seems to have found her rhythm at the right time and will start a strong favourite against Ferro

Ferro Stretched But Continues Winning Run
14 matches have now gone by without a Ferro loss. 10 of these came in exhibition competitions which might not count for some of the fans but not too many players have been able to shrug off the lack of seriousness associated with such tournaments and maintained that record.
And for Ferro to then switch gears from hard court, where she won those 10 matches to the clay of Palermo has been rather stunning. Ferro had won all her previous three matches of this tournament in straight sets too and it was only against the fighting Camila Giorgi she finally dropped a set.
It came in the opening set which Ferro lost easily 6-2 but then fought back to register a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Giorgi.
In fact, going into this match, Ferro was 4/6 favourite to win it and a straight-set victory looked most likely given Giorgi had faced some tough encounters already in the tournament.
Anett Kontaveit v Fiona Ferro Prediction & Tip
The form Kontaveit showed in her semifinal will be tough to surmount for most players, let alone someone ranked outside the top 50. She is 8/13 to win this with bet365 also 11/8 for the Estonian to win in two.
Tip: Kontaveit to win in straight sets: 11/8 (bet365)
