Veronika Kudermetova v Eugenie Bouchard Head to Head
This will be their second match with the first one having gone in favour of Bouchard in 2018. That match, like this one, was played on clay, in Gstaad but things have changed drastically for both players since with Kudermetova having climbed up to 40th in the world and Bouchard falling to outside the top 300.
Kudermetova Returns to Competitive Tennis
This Russian was ranked 242nd in the 2018 season but her climb to the 38th in the world has been spectacular. It has included a title win in Guadalajara on hard court surface in 2019 and while her record on clay isn’t as superlative as hard courts, it’s not too bad either.
Last year, for instance, she finished with 11-8 win-loss on clay while in 2018 it was 15-8.
Earlier this year, Kudermetova began with a failure to qualify for the Brisbane International but a semifinal appearance at the Hobart competition helped boost her confidence – and rankings. Unfortunately she crashed out of the Australian Open in the first round, lost both her Fed Cup matches, and then survived just one match in St. Petersburg.
The earlier part of her season ended with a qualification for the Dubai International where she pushed Garbine Muguruza to the third set in round two and another three-set loss to Belinda Bencic in the second round of Doha.

Bouchard Resumes Her Tennis Struggles
Bouchard is 26 and in another era, she was ranked fifth in the world. That was a different time and much like many other things, her ranking has changed drastically too. The former Wimbledon winner is now 328th in the world and with her free-fall in tennis showing no end to it.
Her last WTA title came in 2014, and appearances in the latter part of main draws of tennis tournaments have been few and far between.
She began 2020 with a solid showing though. With wins over Kirsten Flipkens and Caroline Garcia, Bouchard was a quarterfinalist at the Auckland Open but then failed at the final qualifying hurdle at the Australian Open. A first round defeat followed at the Newport Beach competition before the season was suspended.
Playing on clay in exhibition tournaments leading up to the start of the season, the Canadian has won two of her five matches and while Kudermetova’s biggest strength isn’t on clay, she could be a tough cookie to crack given Bouchard’s form issues.
Veronika Kudermetova v Eugenie Bouchard Prediction & Tip
Kudermetova is a favourite but can she complete the job in straight sets. This looks doubtful because of the obvious rustiness from not having played in a while while Bouchard has been on the court. We might see a three-setter here.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
