Petra Martic v Kristyna Pliskova Head to Head
This is the second meeting between Martic and Pliskova, with their previous match having come in 2014 Doha. Martic needed to come back from being a set down to win that qualifier.

Martic Looking to Push on From Palermo Semi
On the one hand Martic would be satisfied her comeback performance resulted in a semifinal appearance in Palermo last week. On the other hand, it ended with a crushing loss at the hands of Anett Kontaveit which would have been a bit of a surprise given her own clay strengths.
What’s interesting to note is her draw through to the semifinal is an easy one again, and even in the semifinal, she would be up against Elise Mertens – if she gets there – who is coming off some poor form herself. That said, she will need to get past Pliskova in this match for starters.
Martic was stretched in her first round match by Varvara Gracheva in her opening round match, needing a tie-breaker in the first set before settling down to complete a straight-set win in a little less than two hours.
An injury had played a part in her Kontaveit loss and Martic needed another timeout for fitness issues, but managed to quell off her opponent’s challenge.
And speaking of her fitness, Martic noted:
“It’s definitely not ideal – I have some aches here and there, the body is still adjusting to matches and playing one after another – but I think it’s normal and I hope I can maintain it to last this tournament.”

Pliskova Stretched by a 15-Year-Old
While Pliskova won her opening round match in straight sets, she had to struggle through her second set against 15-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova. Fruhvirtova, who is ranked outside the top 800, had got a wildcard for this tournament and has been playing ITF and exhibition tournaments but she did manage to scoop away five games in the second set.
Pliskova had earlier shocked Maria Sakkari in the first round of the Palermo Open and then take a set to none lead against Sara Errani before losing the next two to get knocked out of the competition.
The advantage Pliskova has going into both, Palermo and Prague is the number of matches she played on clay before the season resumed. And with Martic struggling with her fitness, Pliskova might have the game to trouble the Croat, but can she last the entire match to win it?
Petra Martic v Kristyna Pliskova Prediction & Tip
The answer to the question I asked above, highly doubtful. The only problem is one doesn’t know much about how Martic’s fitness will hold up. She starts out as 1/2 favourite, and we think the games handicap market looks a good bet here.
Tip: Games Handicap Martic -3.5: 10/11 (bet365)
