Serena Williams v Venus Williams Head to Head
This is not rivalry in the truest sense of the word, with the two sisters sharing a thick bond on and off the court like almost no other. In terms of head to head though, Serena leads Venus 18-12, with those 30 matches been played over the past 22 years.
The last time they were supposed to play each other was in Rome last year but Serena withdrew from that encounter because of fitness issues. The last time they actually took to court was at the US Open where Serena won 6-1, 6-2 to make the fourth round. Venus’ last win over Serena came in the Indian Wells Open third round of 2018.

Serena Taken to Three Sets in Opener
Bernarda Pera isn’t a name you would expect to take Serena Williams to three sets, but with the rusty 23-time Grand Slam winner taking her time to get going, Pera would have thought for a moment she had a chance.
Serena took her time to get going. In a stadium atmosphere described as calm and ‘chill’ by the American top-10 player, Serena missed a few shots having not played since her Fed Cup campaign back in February before finally finding rhythm.
She was a few points away from going down in straight sets at one stage but it was just a matter of getting used to her opponent’s game. And Serena referred to her own game as competitive, before it slowly grew into a more dominating one in the third set as she raced off to a 3-1 lead.
There was no looking back from there for the champion. With the rustiness shrugged off, rhythm found, Serena will become a more dangerous player moving on from here and that cannot be good news for her sister.

Venus Shock for Azarenka
The elder Williams sister hadn’t won a single WTA match this season and of the five she played at the World TeamTennis, she won just once. That wasn’t the kind of form she would have liked going into a match against an opponent like Victoria Azarenka.
Azarenka was a favourite in that encounter and if anything was expected to push Venus around a lot. Venus showed excellent form in the match, facing just one break-point in the entire match and completed a 6-3, 6-2 rout of the former Australian Open champion.
Having regularly struggled to notch up wins on the WTA circuit in recent times, the confidence might have returned for Venus with that Azarenka rout. However, things might not be that easy against Serena though.
Either ways, fans can be expected to be treated to another chapter in the wonderful ‘non-rivalry’ between the Williams sisters.
Serena Williams v Venus Williams Prediction & Tip
Serena is 4/9 to win this while Venus starts off at 7/4 to surprise her sister. Typically Serena shouldn’t have too many issues but it’s always tough to make a call when these sisters play. Going for the games market here.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 4/5 (bet365)
