Laura Siegemund v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head

This will be the second match between Siegemund and Sorribes Tormo with the first one having come last year at Bol. Tormo had won that one in what turned out to be horrible rout for Siegemund, 6-1, 6-0.

Siegemund Showing Spark

While Siegemund was knocked out in the second round of the Palermo Open last week, it wasn’t before she had stretched the higher-ranked Anett Kontaveit to three sets. Earlier she had sent out Irina Camelia Begu in her opener in that tournament.

Siegemund made a slow start to her first round match Egypt’s Mayar Sherif earlier this week, when she lost the first set. However, her comeback was equal parts impressive and confidence-inspiring, as Siegemund came through 6-1, 6-0 in the final two sets.

The German 32-year-old has not had too many deep runs in any of the tournaments this year, with her entry into the Auckland Open quarterfinal being her best showing. This could be her chance, given she isn’t facing a player up in the rankings but…

…Sorribes Tormo Didn’t Lose a Single Exhibition Match

During the pandemic break, Tormo played in eight matches and won each one of them. And while that should have given her some confidence going into her opener in Palermo, she was unfortunately drawn to play Dayana Yastremska, an in-form and high-ranked opponent.

She lost that in straight sets but undeterred by that defeat, the Spaniard took on Barbora Strycova, and won that opener in Prague in straight sets. Tormo was stretched to a tie-breaker in the first set but once she had pouched it, there was no looking back. The Spaniard went on to complete the win 6-1 in the second.

Sorribes Tormo is also coming off two seasons in which she held a 40-19 win-loss record on clay which could give her bit of an edge going into this encounter.

Laura Siegemund v Sara Sorribes Tormo Prediction & Tip

It’s a tough match to call and even the bookmakers seem to agree. Siegemund is 5/6 to win this while Tormo starts off at 19/20. Bit of a coin-toss this but Sorribes Tormo’s better clay court record more recently make us go for her.

Tip: Sorribes Tormo to win: 19/20 (bet365)
