Ana Bogdan v Kristyna Pliskova Head to Head
This is the sixth time Bogdan and Pliskova will face off in a competitive match and on all the previous five occasions, Pliskova has defeated her 92nd-ranked opponent. Their last meeting came at Miami last year, in a qualifier and it went to three sets, the closest their match had ever been. Pliskova took the final set 7-5.

Bogdan Benefitting from Tsurenko Withdrawal
Having obtained a direct entry into the main draw of this competition in Prague, Bogdan was drawn to face 275th-ranked Storm Sanders in her first round. The gulf between the class of the two players was on display almost immediately and Bogdan went on to win the encounter 6-1, 6-1.
Her first real test was expected to come against Lesia Tsurenko but the latter ended up withdrawing from the match because of fitness issues and allowing Bogdan to make it to the quarterfinals without lifting her racquet.
In more recent times, this is unique territory for Bogdan who hasn’t made it to too many quarterfinals of WTA events since the start of 2019. In fact, in the whole of the previous season, Bogdan was a quarterfinalist at only Limoges Open towards the end of the year, and had never again made it there this year before this competition.
She now faces 69th-ranked Pliskova.

Pliskova in a Purple Patch?
Kristyna Pliskova has just one WTA title under belt and it had come in 2016. Since then, there haven’t been too many periods in which Pliskova has performed in the manner as she has in these past couple of weeks.
The previous week saw her upset Maria Sakkari in Palermo before putting up a fighting show against Sara Errani in the second round. While she went down to the Italian there, it seems to have not affected her too much and a purple patch has been on display.
First Pliskova dispatched the 820th-ranked Linda Fruhvirtova in her opener, which was on expected lines. Against Petra Martic, however, in the second round, Pliskova was expected to come undone. Instead it was her Croat opponent who proved to be no match.
Pliskova did not just win but did so in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5 to ease into the last eight. And now she faces a player who hasn’t had much of an experience playing at this level.
Ana Bogdan v Kristyna Pliskova Prediction & Tip
The difference in their ranking and overall form shows in the bookmakers’ odds too. Bogdan is 2/1 to win this while Pliskova is an overwhelming favourite at 2/5. Another straight-set effort looks likely in this one with Pliskova to advance.
Tip: Two sets in the match: 4/9 (bet365)
