Diego Schwartzman v Casper Ruud Head to Head
This will be the fourth time Schwartzman and Ruud will be playing each other. All the previous three outings were won by the 13th-ranked Schwartzman, including once on the hard court of the 2018 Australian Open. The other two matches came that year too but on clay.

Schwartzman Returns After a Long Layoff
Unlike some of his compatriots, Schwartzman wasn’t involved in any exhibition tennis. He chose to ride out the time and will be making his first appearance since tennis went on a break because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Things were looking good for him before the break. While he did not perform to the best of his capabilities at the ATP Cup at the start of the season, Schwartzman came back strongly to reach the fourth round at the Australian Open. It was his joint-best showing at the season’s first Grand Slam.
Only a few months earlier, he had made it to the quarterfinal at the US Open too.
Schwartzman followed that showing with an appearance in the final of the Cordoba, an ATP 250 tournament played at home, where he lost to Christian Garin. And he ended the pre-break with a semifinal in Buenos Aires, before having to pull out because of a leg injury.
Now, the Argentine plays his first match in nearly seven months.

Ruud’s Won a Title This Year
Speaking of clay court specialists, Ruud announced himself earlier this year by winning his first ever ATP title when he clinched the Buenos Aires Open. He might have played Schwartzman in the final of that competition had it not been for the latter’s withdrawal from the tournament because of an injury but he did what he could do best – crushing Pedro Sousa in the final.
That title win had followed first round defeats in Auckland and the Australian Open, with Ruud’s showing on hard courts continuing to remain a problem.
Ruud almost made it his second title when he reached the final of the Santiago Open as well, but lost to Thiago Seyboth Wild in the title-decider. Still, those two results were enough for him to climb to a career-high of 34th in the world.
In the only tournament he featured in during the pandemic break, Ruud lost all his three singles matches at the Thiem’s Seven competition.
Diego Schwartzman v Casper Ruud Prediction & Tip
It comes as no surprise the Argentine starts off as a favourite here with bet365 offering 4/9 for his win and 11/10 for a straight-setter. We are backing Schwartzman to win this easily despite the rustiness.
Tip: Schwartzman to win in straight sets: 11/10 (bet365)
