Andrey Rublev v Dan Evans Head to Head
Four previous matches between Rublev and British number one Evans have resulted in two wins for both players. All those four matches have come on hard court surfaces, starting with a couple of Challengers in 2016 and 2019 before they met twice earlier this year.
At the Adelaide International, Rublev managed to edge out Evans in three sets before the Brit had his revenge in Dubai where he won in two tight sets.

Rublev’s Last ATP Match Came against Evans
It’s interesting to note Rublev ended his pre-pandemic season with that match in Dubai where Evans defeated him in straight sets at the quarterfinal stage. Since then, Rublev has participated in two tournaments, the infamous Adria Tour where he won all his three matches and the Thiem’s Seven Invitational.
While those matches were played on clay, Rublev would have gained a lot of confidence from the results there, winning the title at the latter by beating Dominic Thiem in the final.
And that’s not to say Rublev is a clay court specialist alone. Earlier this year, Rublev doubled his tally of ATP titles by clinching the Qatar Open and the Adelaide International, which included a win over Evans too.
Even last year, Rublev won a title at Moscow and finished with a win-loss record of 28-14 on hard court surfaces. In form and having featured in eight matches during the break, albeit on clay, he should be more or less in the right frame of mind coming into this one.

Evans Finally Living up to His Potential
The talent was never in doubt but it was his attitude which had often exasperated his fans. However, over the past two seasons, Evans has shown what he is truly capable of and today stands at the cusp of entering the top 20 in the rankings.
He is currently 28th in the world and a couple of solid showings over the next few weeks could make that an achievable dream. Evans, who has never participated in the Cincinnati Open before this, comes into this tournament on the back of a tournament win during the pandemic break.
Evans defeated fellow Brits like Kyle Edmund and Andy Murray to lift the Battle of the Brits trophy and then followed it up with another three singles victories in the team event. With a quarterfinal at Rotterdam and a semifinal in Dubai to go with that, Evans could prove to be a huge challenge to his higher-ranked opponent.
Andrey Rublev v Dan Evans Prediction & Tip
Not surprisingly, Rublev starts off a favourite but the odds of 2/5 for his win here are too short especially given what Evans has shown he can do. We can look at the games handicap for this one too for Evans.
Tip: Games Handicap Evans +3.5: 8/11 (bet365)
