Bellis Back on the Comeback Trail
Although still only 21, Bellis, nicknamed “CiCi” has had a comparatively long tennis career. In early 2018 she was the second youngest player in the top 100, and was once ranked as high as 35 in the world. She won the Honolulu Open in 2016, beating Zhang Shuai of China, and has six ITF titles to her name.
However, she has been plagued by injuries in recent years, and, as a result, her world ranking has plummeted.
Now, fit again, she has begun the long march back towards the top.
Since lockdown she has beaten Eugenie Bouchard in an exhibition match, and then came through qualifying in Lexington, before eventually losing to Jil Belen Teichmann of Switzerland.
And again, she has had to qualify for this event, overcoming first the challenge of compatriot Madison Brengle, and then Ysaline Bonaventure of Belgium, to earn the right to play Dodin.

Dodin, the Fifth-Ranked French Player
Dodin, is the world 116, and the fifth ranked player in France.
She has won one senior WTA title, the Tournoi de Quebec in 2016, when she beat Lauren Davis of the USA in the final. However, she spends the majority of her time on the junior, ITF circuit, where she has won 10 titles, the most recent of which came in Macon, France, in March.
Her best result on the senior tour this year came in St. Petersburg, where she reached the quarter-finals, eventually losing to Elena Rybakina, but only after a close three set battle.
In her one tournament since lockdown, she had an encouraging first round win over Dayana Yastremska in Palermo, before losing to Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia.
Catherine Bellis v Oceane Dodin Prediction & Tip
Although Bellis is by far the lower ranked player, that standing is not her reflection of her ability but merely the result of her long injury lay-off. Fit again, she is starting to show flashes of her old form and, if she plays near to her best, should easily beat Dodin.
Tip: Bellis to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
