Sebastian Korda v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

While this will be the first time that Korda and Ruusuvuori will be playing at this level, they have competed with each other in juniors tennis, having played at the 2017 juniors US Open. They met in the round of 32 and Ruusuvuori overcame Korda in straight sets in that encounter.

Former Juniors Grand Slam Winner Korda Joins the Big League

Having been a part of the Futures and Challenger circuit for a while now, Korda has attempted to make it to the main draws of ATP competitions before this but never managed to do that. Until now that is.

In this tournament this yer, the former Australian Open juniors champion Korda needed three sets in each of his two qualifiers to make it to his maiden main draw. The 223rd-ranked son of the former Australian Open winner Petr Korda, first defeated the 76th-ranked Attila Balazs and then stunned former world number six Giles Simon to enter the first round.

Both these players are ranked more than 150 places above him, making it a coup of sorts for the 20-year-old.

Korda, who had earlier made it to the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Challenger earlier this year, will be battling a fellow qualifier for a chance to play Matteo Berrettini in the second round.

Ruusuvuori Fresh from Four Challenger Wins Last Season

Ranked 101st in the world, the Finnish Ruusuvuori has been featuring in the main draws of ATP competitions for a while now but hasn’t really done too much of note in any of them.

That is not to discount the 10 tournaments he won at the lower level, including four Challenger titles last season. All of these came on hard or indoor hard courts.

Earlier this season, Ruusuvuori also made it to the final of the Canberra Challenger where he lost a fighting final in three sets to the more experienced Philipp Kohlschreiber. While the Finn failed to qualify for the Australian Open, he made it to the main draw of the Montpellier Open and won a match and later also qualified for the Marseille Open.

In the qualifiers here in Cincinnati, Ruusuvuori was a straight-set winner over Jeremy Chardy and Thiago Monteiro, again, two players ranked higher than him.

Sebastian Korda v Emil Ruusuvuori Prediction & Tip

Ruusuvuori’s experience in featuring in the main draws and a ranking more than 100 places better than Korda’s make him an overwhelming favourite to win this and we reckon he could do that in straight sets.

Tip: Ruusuvuori to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
