Milos Raonic v Dan Evans Head to Head
This is the first meeting between similar ranked and aged Canadian Milos Raonic and Daniel Evans from Britain.
New Look Raonic Looking for a Fresh Start
Former world number three Milos Raonic has always been known for his immaculate hair and his soft spoken pre- and post match conferences. The Canadian seems to have changed both for now.
Raonic with the “no haircut” look expressed more than he usually does in his press conference touching on various topics from his hair since the Australian Open, to barely seeing his parents in 2020, to his pandemic precautions and lifestyle, his preference for private housing and more.
What seems to have stayed the same has been the big serve! Up against another big server in American Sam Querrey, Raonic hit 19 aces in his 6-4,6-4 victory with his first serve percentage in excess of 85%.
A career that saw the Canadian reach the top five of the ATP rankings, as well as the Wimbledon final went off the rails in 2018 & 2019, largely due to recurring injuries and indifferent form. Raonic looked sharp at the start of the year in Melbourne, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas, eventually falling to eventual champion Novak Djokovic, and will be hoping his week here prior to the US Open involves a deep run.

Evans Picking Up From Strong Run Pre-Pandemic
For a year that has seen as little tennis as it has, 2020 witnessed the third clash between Dan Evans & Andrey Rublev in the Western & Southern opener.
In a long battle between two players who refused to go away, the British number one prevailed in just over two and a half hours. This was Evans sixth top 20 win in 2020 as he looks to be picking up from the strong showings of 2019 and early 2020.
Rublev prevailed against Evans en route the Adelaide title in January and Evans avenged it soon thereafter in Dubai. As expected and has been the case, the two were involved in yet another physical match.
The Briton is up against a very different opponent in Raonic, in what should be a less physical encounter and will be down to how well the Evans ground game tackles the big Canadian serve..
Milos Raonic v Dan Evans Prediction & Tip
In a first clash between the two, there will be a lot at stake. Both have got the week off to well-earned victories and neither will want that to end quite yet, going into the US Open.
For Raonic, the serve will be crucial and he will need that to fire on all cylinders; whereas for Evans, his depth on the groundstrokes and rallies will be crucial in getting a measure of the serve.
An intense battle on the cards; while Evans has looked to be sharper, it will be key to see how much he has left after a physically draining encounter against Rublev.
The gutsy Evans to pull of another victory this week in a decider despite the odds saying otherwise.
Tip: Evans to win: 11/8 (bet365)
