Naomi Osaka v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head
This will be the fifth meeting between Osaka and Kontaveit and the Japanese Grand Slam winner has won three of them while giving Kontaveit a walkover on the fourth occasion which came at the Stuttgart Open last year. Osaka’s wins came at the Surbiton ITF competition on grass, and WTA Tokyo and WTA Dubai on hard courts.

Osaka Proves to be Too Strong for Yastremska
In her first match after the lockdown ended, which came in the second round of the competition, Osaka was tested by Karolina Muchova. That was to be expected, however, given the Japanese player hadn’t participated in a single exhibition tournament all this while and had directly resumed with that second round encounter.
She had shrugged off the loss of the first set in a tie-breaker before carving out a neat win.
Osaka’s real test was to come against Yastremska who is one of the more talented, upcoming players and a near-dark horse for at least Premier events if not the Grand Slams.
It never arrived. Or rather Osaka never allowed it to happen.
A rather stunning performance from Osaka saw her clinch a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Yastremska to make it to the quarterfinals. Now she takes on another in-form player Anett Kontaveit, who is on some kind of a roll since the return of tennis.

Kontaveit Takes out Bouzkova
Estonia’s Kontaveit wasted no time in getting past Marie Bouzkova of Czech Republic in the third round of the competition on Tuesday. She won 6-3, 6-3.
And it was her third successive straight-set following on from a 6-3, 6-1 rout of Daria Kasatkina and 6-3, 6-4 drubbing of Jil Teichmann. And that had followed a finals appearance at the Palermo Open where she was finally beaten by Simona Halep in the final.
Kontaveit, a quarterfinalist at the Australian Open this year, has only made the last-eight of a Premier tournament four times before this but had never gone beyond the third round at the Cincinnati Open.
With wins against Belinda Bencic and Elina Svitolina under her belt already this season, she would have to take something out of those matches to try and get something against Osaka in this one.
Naomi Osaka v Anett Kontaveit Prediction & Tip
Osaka is a rather short 8/15 to win this match, probably to do with her record on hard court surfaces on which she has won a couple of Grand Slam competitions. However, Kontaveit is a highly improved player and we see her winning at least set off her opponent in this one.
Tip: Kontaveit to win a set – Yes: 4/7 (bet365)
