Johanna Konta v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between Konta and Sakkari. Konta leads 3-1 overall and 2-1 on the WTA tour with one other win having come in the Fed Cup. Sakkari’s only win over Konta came on the clay courts of Rabat.

Konta Slowly Returning to Her Best
Before the start of this tournament, Konta was 3-5 on win-loss this season, an underwhelming record for a world number 15. Such had been the drop in her fortunes, not too many would have given Konta too much of a chance to make it this far.
After all, just a couple of weeks ago, she had resumed her season with a first round exit at the Lexington Open, losing in straight sets to Marie Bouzkova.
Konta has played some stunning tennis in this tournament so far. She has been assisted by the draw as well, but take nothing away from her convincing, straight-set wins over Kirsten Flipkens and Vera Zvonareva, in which she has lost a sum total of eight games across the two matches.
Now comes her true test, against a player who will be super-chuffed with her showing against Serena Williams. That said, Konta’s big advantage comes in the form of being more rested, having spent very little time on court as compared to Maria Sakkari.

Sakkari Stunner for Serena
Coming into the tournament, Sakkari had lost in the first round at Palermo on clay and a sudden shift to hard courts was expected to be a challenge. Especially when the draw came out and had Sakkari facing Cori Gauff in the first round.
Gauff had been tipped to get past the Greek, starting out at a rather short 1/2 to win it. Instead, Sakkari came through dropping just four games in the match. Yulia Putintseva gave her bit of a scare in the second set but Sakkari still didn’t drop a set coming into her third round meeting with Serena Williams.
Now admitted Serena hasn’t been at her best since the return but when a champion player like her wins the opening set you know you have your task cut out. Instead, Sakkari fought back and clinched the second set in a tie-breaker before racing off to a 5-0 lead in the final set and winning it 6-1.
Sakkari admitted after the match the result hadn’t hit her yet and that’s to be expected when you defeat someone like Serena. Unfortunately she doesn’t have too much time to recover from that mentally and physically gruelling encounter and get ready for the next round.
Johanna Konta v Maria Sakkari Prediction & Tip
It’s interesting to see Konta starts off at 1/1 to win the match and while it’s understandable Sakkari’s had tougher opponents up against her, the relief from having won a match like the one against Serena could actually play against the Greek. Backing Konta here.
Tip: Konta to win: 1/1 (bet365)
