Dominic Thiem v Jaume Munar Head to Head
There have been three previous matches between Thiem and Munar before this and the Austrian has won every single time. All those matches, at the 2018 and 2019 Barcelona Open and the 2020 Rio Open, came on clay which is Thiem’s most preferred surface.

Thiem Hoping for Australian Open Redux
For a player aspiring to break into the Grand Slam winning bracket, Thiem would hoping to improve his performances at the US Open. Over the six occasions he has participated at this competition, Thiem has made the quarterfinals just once and last season lost in the first round of the tournament.
It was his first ever opening round defeat at Flushing Meadows.
Thiem will now look at two performances, or more particularly want to take the confidence of one of them and learn from the mistakes of the other. The first of them is the Australian Open of earlier this year where, on hard court, Thiem managed to reach the final and put up a brave fight against Novak Djokovic.
The other is the Cincinnati Open, where, after getting an opening round bye, Thiem was knocked out in the second by Filip Krajinovic. While early losses are, at times inevitable in a career this long, a 6-2, 6-1 crushing would have probably dented Thiem’s confidence a little.
Can he just focus on and take something out of the year’s first major?

Forgettable Season for Munar So Far
Having kick-started his season at the Canberra Challenger, Munar gave himself bit of a chance when he made it as far as the quarterfinal there. A second round appearance at the Australian Open followed soon after but what was much awaited was the Spaniard’s performance on clay.
It didn’t go as planned though. For a player who had finished the previous season with a 31-19 win-loss record on red dirt, his showing this season has been forgettable to say the least.
It started with a second round loss at the Cordoba Open and was followed by another first round loss at Buenos Aires. And then after winning his opener at Rio he met Thiem and while he fought to take the first set off the Austrian he went down in three.
In his final tournament before the season went on a break because of the pandemic, Munar lost his opener at Santiago.
Even on his return, Munar failed to make it to the main draw at the Cincinnati Open and is now faced with the prospect of an early and quick loss unless he can exploit any chink Thiem opens up for him.
Dominic Thiem v Jaume Munar Prediction & Tip
