Update: The Cincinnati Open has been suspended for Thursday after the withdrawal of Naomi Osaka from the competition following the shock killing of Jacob Blake. More details on this will be released soon.
Johanna Konta v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head
There have been three meetings between Konta and Azarenka, played between 2015 and 2018. Konta leads 2-1, having won the matches in Wuhan and Montreal while Azarenka emerging victor at Miami. None of these matches have gone to a third set incidentally.

Konta Tames Sakkari
Sakkari had gone into her match against Konta as a slight favourite but as we had predicted here, it’s never easy to follow up with an equally strong showing in a match following up on the kind of win she had registered over Serena Williams.
And Konta took full toll of that, taking advantage of a run-down Sakkari to win 6-4, 6-3 and move into the semifinals.
Konta hadn’t had the best of the seasons entering the Cincinnati Open but with bit of a luck with the draw she managed to make it to the last-eight without breaking into a sweat.
Kirsten Flipkens was swatted away 6-0, 6-2, before she got the better of Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 6-2 in the third round. And now with her easing into the semifinal in straight sets, Konta might have emerged as one of the dark horses for the depleted US Open as well.

Azarenka March Continues to Semis
Not too long ago, Azarenka has admitted, she was on the verge of quitting from the sport. After all, things hadn’t gone too well off the court and the lack of focus has been quite telling.
Which is why her showing in this tournament has been particularly heart-warming. Signs are, she is getting back to her best, if not at the levels which had seen Azarenka win those Australian Open titles way back in her day.
Sure she has won four matches in a row to make it to the semifinal, but it’s not just those wins but the manner in which those victories have been achieved which has been excellent. It started with the world number 24 Donna Vekic getting steamrolled 6-2, 6-3 in the first round before Caroline Garcia and Alize Cornet were sent packing.
Azarenka’s real test came in the quarterfinal in the form of the Ons Jabeur, a player who has shown her capabilities this season. And for starters it looked like Belarusian was up against her first real challenge of the tournament.
She could have gone 3-0 down soon but fought back to break back and take the set into a tie-breaker. A tough 9-7 in the tie-breaker was followed by a further easing of the nerves, allowing her to register another straight-set win.
Johanna Konta v Victoria Azarenka Prediction & Tip
Interesting to note Konta starts off as an overwhelming favourite with bet365 offering 4/7 for her win as compared to 11/8 for a Azarenka victory. What we could see is the first three-setter for either player in this tournament.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
