Novak Djokovic v Roberto Bautista-Agut Head to Head
There have been a whopping 11 previous meetings between Djokovic and Bautista-Agut and the Serb leads 8-3. Interesting to note though, Bautista-Agut has won two of their previous three matches and over the past six matches going back to the Shanghai Masters in 2016, they are 3-3.

The neck seems all good, the form has improved no ends and Djokovic continues to win matches like no other. He now has 21 wins this season including three in this tournament and is now on a four-match winning streak in which he hasn’t dropped a set.
This dates back to the final of the ATP Dubai where he tamed Stefanos Tsitsipas before the pandemic suspension and has followed it with three solid, and ever-improving performances in this competition.
Ricardas Berankis proved to be bit of a tough nut to crack in the second round but since then Tennys Sandgren and Jan-Lennard Struff have not come close to matching up to Djokovic’s prowess on court. In turn, he has now made it to eight semifinals at the Western & Southern Open competitions, levelling with four other players to do so.
Djokovic needed just 62 minutes in his quarterfinal to finish his demolition job and despite his slightly uneasy record against Bautista-Agut, there would be no stopping his confidence coming into the semifinals.

Bautista-Agut Comes Back from the Death
Down a set and serving at 0-40 to prevent himself from getting broken and walloped in straight sets, Bautista-Agut found himself a way to not just come out of the situation but also turn it on its head to go on to win the match.
Medvedev was the favourite to complete an easy win even before the match began but when he took the first set 6-1 and was 40-0 up on his opponent’s serve in the second, the writing seemed to be on the wall. Bautista-Agut is made of sterner stuff as he won 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, which saw him save 15 break points of the 20 he faced.
Earlier in the tournament, Bautista-Agut had a first round bye and then proceeded to crush Richard Gasquet in the second. The Spaniard then fell a set behind in his third round tie against Karen Khachanov as well before making the first of his two comebacks of the tournament to beat his Russian opponent.
The good news for Bautista-Agut is he now has a break of a day before playing his semifinal because of the change in schedule, one to rest and get a respite from the back to back three-setters in the hot New York weather.
