This will be the first time that the two players will be going face to face in a competitive match.

It has been a forgettable season so far for the 21-year-old. He did play at the ATP Cup at the beginning of the season winning two and losing two matches.
But an abdominal injury meant that he was out of action for one and a half months which included his home Grand Slam at the Australian Open. He could only play one match after his comeback before the season was suspended. That was a first-round loss at Acapulco.
He did play at the Valencia Challenger in June where he won both the matches. But once again when the competitive action returned, he crashed out in the first round at Cincinnati Masters. Now he will be looking to put all of it behind him and continue improving upon his record at the Flushing Meadows as he has done since last three years.
He lost out in the first round in 2017 before reaching the third round in 2019 and the round of 16 last year. It will be interesting to see if he can continue the trend this year as well.

Late Bloomer Martin Looking to Achieve Best US Open Run
For someone who started his career back in 2005 and has played over 900 matches, a first-round win here will mean a lot. Not only he will achieve his best-ever showing at the US Open going past his first-round loss back in 2013 but he will also achieve his career-best ranking. And he would be hoping to maximise his opponent’s poor run of form this season.
Mostly plying his trade at the challenger level, Martin has had some notable results on the tour this season. He reached the semi-finals at Cordoba Open and has been performing admirably in the exhibition events during the suspended season.
Though he is a clay-court specialist, the game time he has had recently will be an advantage to him against De Minaur who looked rusty at Cincinnati.
