Filip Krajinovic v Mikael Ymer Head to Head
Krajinovic and Ymer have met once, and it was the experienced Serb who won their encounter in Montpellier quite handily 6-1, 6-1.

Krajinovic Yet to Win A Match At US Open
It goes without saying, that one of tennis’ biggest mysteries is how Filip Krajinovic hasn’t quite won a match at the US Open. Considering his pure striking on a hard court, it is something the 28-year-old will want to put right this year.
The Serb fell in the second round of qualifying at the 2017 edition, and in last couple of years he was ousted in the first round by Australian Matthew Ebden and Cedrik Marcel Stebe of Germany.
Krajinovic’s 2020 season was a slow burner that came to life during the European Indoor hard courts, in which he made a pair of semifinals in Montpellier and Rotterdam respectively. He lost both times to Gael Monfils, the eventual champion.
Among several breakthroughs this year, he beat Novak Djokovic at the disputatiously-organized Adria Tour, and also reached the quarterfinal of the Cincinnati Masters where he demolished Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem 6-2 6-1 – a contest in which he did not face a single break point.
Will fourth time be the charm for the Serbian No.3 to end his US Open winless drought?
Ymer Staying In the Moment
Mikael Ymer has had an outstanding junior career that included reaching the Wimbledon boy’s singles final in 2015 and a career-high ITF junior ranking of No.3. After living in his older brother’s shadow Elias for many years, he finally surpassed him in the ATP Rankings last July.
The 21-year-old will be one of the players to watch among the Next Gen stars. Few players aged 21 and under have had a season as productive as that Ymer delivered in 2019. He garnered four Challenger titles, recorded 39 match wins and rose nearly 200 spots to sit comfortably at No.69.
Ymer’s lifetime of persistence is finally paying off big time. Since emerging on the scene as a Wimbledon junior finalist in 2015, he struggled to stay healthy as a teenager, with a serious hip injury keeping him out for nearly all of 2016.
As ambitious as he says he is, Ymer admits he doesn’t focus on setting goals in terms of results or rankings. But given his magical rise in the past one year, he might have to set goals galore.
Krajinovic v Ymer Prediction & Tip
As mentioned, Krajinovic is still chasing for that elusive win at the US Open. I think he is primed to break his duck here. He was absolutely tearing the cover off the ball at the Western & Southern Open, and he was one point away from reaching the semis. Ymer is a promising prospect, but for the moment the scene will be Serbian’s in this one.
Tip: Krajinovic to win in four sets: 3/1 (bet365)
