Alexander Zverev v Kevin Anderson Head to Head
The players have met five times in their careers with Zverev winning on each occasion. All meetings were on the hard courts. Their most recent meeting was at the 2018 Laver Cup where Zverev won a crucial match to give Team Europe the title.

Zverev Hoping For Breakthrough Tournament
Next Gen star and number five seed Alexander Zverev has exhibited promise and talent since 2017 and done well to win three Masters 1000 ATP titles. However, he has not lived up to his billing at the majors and the 2020 Australian Open semi-final remains his best performance at a major.
For the last season and a half, the young German has run into a host of issues on and off the court. Coaching relationships, indifferent form, serving challenges and poor showings at big matches in majors have all been a deterrent resulting in him unable to live up to expectations.
Along with Dominc Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, he has been tipped as the ones to take over the mantle from the Big Three, but that is yet to be seen.
Zverev will be ruing his showing at the Western & Southern Open this week, where he was serving for the match against Andy Murray and ran into serving issues yet once again with a flurry of double faults, resulting in an unexpected loss.
With the next month and a half hopefully being full of tennis action in a season shortened by the pandemic, Zverev will be looking to end the season well.

Anderson Looking To Recover from Injury Lay-Off
Former world number five Kevin Anderson had a very strong run in 2017-2018, making the finals of the 2017 US Open and the 2018 Wimbledon championships. He will always be remembered for coming back from two sets down to defeat Roger Federer at Wimbledon in the quarter-finals and then winning the epic semi-final against John Isner.
The last season and a half has not been the best for the big serving South African, who has had injury concerns resulting in lay-offs from the tour and lack of match practice and indifferent form.
Anderson looked like getting into his some sort of form at the Western & Southern Open, but the back-to-back matches took a toll and Stefanos Tsitsipas made quick work of their encounter.
The South African will be hoping to use the rest of the year to get back into both form and fitness, but a number 124 world ranking right now will result in difficult early encounters like his opener here against Zverev.
Alexander Zverev v Kevin Anderson Prediction & Tip
A very unlikely opening round match for a Grand Slam, but Anderson’s drop in the rankings as a result of the long injury lay-off is a contributing factor.
This is a crucial tournament for both players for different reasons. Zverev is still looking to establish his authority in a major tournament, where as Anderson will be hoping to continue to chalk his path back to the form that saw him make the top five in the world in 2018.
Both are big servers with aggressive forehands, and both will be looking to have that part of their game clicking from the beginning.
While Zverev continues to have his issues with the serve and struggles temperamentally from time to time, the biggest question mark around Anderson remains his recovery from injury, lack of match practice, and the ability to play a long match just yet.
Expect a tough contest with big serving and short points, but Zverev’s fitter, younger legs should see him through. Zverev to make the second round in four sets.
Tip: Zverev to win in four sets: 11/4 (bet365)
