Novak Djokovic v Milos Raonic Head to Head

If there’s been a rivalry more one-sided than this one, one would like to see it. And that’s because these two have played 10 times with Djokovic having won all 10 times. What’s worse is Raonic has managed to win just two sets across those 10 encounters.

Djokovic Registers a Strange Win

Bautista-Agut has troubled Djokovic in the past too and we had anticipated it wouldn’t be a straightforward one this time either.

What was not expected was the manner in which the match was played, as Djokovic dropped the first set, came back to level the match and then took a 5-2 lead before letting that go and losing four games in a row.

The Spaniard had a chance to serve out the match at 6-5 but Djokovic’s mental toughness came to the fore yet again as he broke back to take the match into a final set tie-breaker. And then when everyone thought things could get interesting, the world number one took it 7-0.

That was the first set Djokovic had lost in the tournament, having beaten Ricardas Berankis, Tennys Sandgren and Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets before this.

A point to note here is Djokovic did not come out for his press conference after the match because he wasn’t feeling too well and it would be interesting to see if that has anything to do with his neck problems or a general case of exhaustion.

Raonic Stuns Tsitsipas in Straight Sets

The last time Raonic made it to the final of a Masters competition was in March 2016. Since then, the former world number three has seen struggles on court, but now meets the same opponent he had faced in the final the last time – Djokovic had won that Indian Wells Masters tournament by beating Raonic in that final.

Speaking of finals and Raonic made it to the title-decider with an almost-easy straight-set win over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal, a repeat showing of the Australian Open where he had defeated the Greek in similar fashion. Raonic won 7-6, 6-3 to make it to his fourth Masters final and he will now be gunning for his first win.

Raonic faced a set-point in the first set, off his own serve at 5-6 but once he took the set to the tie-breaker, the match became easier for him. Tsitsipas did not have too many opportunities in the second as a fresh-looking Raonic ran off to the victory.

The Canadian had already defeated Andy Murray in the third round and then came back from a set down to crush Filip Krajinovic’s hopes in the quarterfinals.

Novak Djokovic v Milos Raonic Prediction & Tip

Djokovic is too strong a contender here and should win unless there are some lingering fitness issues. We think Raonic might win a set though.

Tip: Raonic to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (bet365)
