Camila Giorgi v Alison van Uytvanck Head to Head
There have been three previous encounters between Giorgi and van Uytvanck and the Italian world number 71 has won all three of them and across three different surfaces. It began with a second round win at the Miami Open in 2015, followed by another at Lugano Open in 2018 before their latest match-up in Linz two years ago.
Van Uytvanck is yet to win a set against Giorgi.

Her current ranking of 71 in the world has meant Giorgi has had to go through the qualifying rounds of multiple competitions this season. It started with the Auckland Open where she won three qualifiers before losing the opener and she then lost in the qualifying rounds of Hobart.
A third round run at the Australian Open would have pushed up her confidence level and that showed at the Fed Cup too where she won two of her three singles matches. Interestingly, in Dubai and Doha, Giorgi fell in the qualifiers yet again.
A quarterfinal appearance at the Lyon Open leading into the pandemic break might have given her the mindset change needed after all those defeats but the lack of tennis over the next few months came with the obvious risk of rustiness.
That didn’t happen. After the return, Giorgi went on a three-match winning streak which included a win over Dayana Yastremska and then at Prague she made the second round.
The question is whether she can make that switch to hard court surfaces, having played on clay in Palermo and Prague.

Van Uytvanck Needs to Restart
After a string of poor results at the start of the season, van Uytvanck looked to have gotten things under control when she made the semifinal of the Lyon Open in March. And the virus struck soon after, sending the tour to a grinding halt and doing the same to the teeny-weeny momentum van Uytvanck looked to have discovered.
Because when van Uytvanck resumed after the pandemic break, having not played a single exhibition event in the interim, she looked like a duck out of water.
For a player to resume playing after a five-month break from the sport was never going to be easy and in the two matches, across Palermo Open and the Cincinnati Open, van Uytvanck managed to win a total of only eight games. Interesting to see how she goes against an in-form player but one who prefers clay courts.

Giorgi is an overwhelming favourite at 4/9 but we think it might not be as straightforward. Expecting van Uytvanck to come out fighting and we might see a third set in this.
