Felix Auger-Aliassime v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head
This will be a first ever meeting between these two players.

Canadian Overdue For A Solid Run At US Open
Felix Auger-Aliassime reached two more finals earlier this year on the indoor hard courts of Rotterdam and Marseille, but he continued to stumble to cross the finish line. Along with three finalist appearances in 2019, he still remains an optimist, it is only a matter of time before he can start hoisting trophies on Sundays.
With a host of absentees, could this be the year that he finally makes an imprint at the biggest stage?
Still only 20, Auger-Aliassime is no stranger to record books. He was ranked No.104 when he reached his maiden ATP final at the Rio Open last February.
In doing so, became the youngest player to make an ATP 500 championship match in the series history. Three months later he was comfortably Canada’s best prospect, and was ranked inside the world’s top-25 at 18 years of age – the youngest player to achieve that feat since Lleyton Hewitt in 1999.
Pundits and the tennis fraternity have been immensely impressed by the rapid progress, with former Grand Slam champion Andy Roddick admitting that the young gun possesses easy power.
Indeed, with a devastating forehand and cat-like quickness, it is clear to see why he might have the highest ceiling of any player in the 21 club and under.
Monteiro Retired Hurt In Cincinnati
Whatever happens in this encounter, we are due to witness a maiden US Open main draw win for either of these players. Thiago Monteiro, one of two Brazilians in the singles draw, will make his fourth straight appearance at Fushing Meadows and his third in the main draw.
Monteiro, like Auger-Aliassime, is also chasing for his maiden main draw at the event. The World No.82 won a Challenger title this year in Uruguay and had a decent run at tour-level tournaments played on South American solid in February, just before the ATP tour was temporarily suspended.
He reached two quarterfinals, in Buenos Aires and Santiago respectively. In his only appearance on hard courts before the tour’s resumption, he lost to John Isner in the first round of the Australian Open.
Monteiro’s return to tennis at the Cincinnati Masters was short-lived as he retired hurt in the second round of qualifying. It still remains to be seen if he is at 100% in this match.
Auger-Aliassime v Monteiro Prediction & Tip
Auger-Aliassime is odds-on to make the second round, partly due to Monteiro’s fitness and his very own good form on the surface this year. I think he will be one of players who could cause plenty of havoc in the draw.
Tip: Auger-Aliassime to win in straight sets: 8/13 (bet365)
