Shelby Rogers v Irina Khromacheva Head to Head
The pair have met never met before. This will be the first meeting between the 25-year old Russian, and the American, two years her senior.

Khromacheva is a former junior world number one player, who has been ranked as high as 89 in the world. However, her career suffered a major setback last year when she was given a short-term ban from the sport after being found guilty of improper conduct by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU). She was accused of attempting to fix the outcome of a qualifying match in Indian Wells earlier that year.
She is now trying to rebuild her career and her reputation.
Like her opponent, she has never won a senior WTA title, although she has been in two 125k series finals and won the event in Kumming, China, in 2016.
And she has also won a senior doubles title – the Copa Colsanitas in Columbia in 2016, with Dalila Jakupovic. She has never been beyond the first round in any Grand Slam and this is her first time in the main draw in New York.
She has played very little tennis this year, competing in just three ITF events prior to lockdown. This will be her first competitive match since the return of the sport.
Rogers, Conqueror of Serena Williams in Lexington
27-year old Rogers has never won a WTA title, but she has won six events on the junior ITF tour, the most recent of which came at the Dow Tennis Classic in February, courtesy of a walkover.
However, at the Top Seed Open earlier this month, she achieved one of the best results of her career, coming from behind to beat Serena Williams in three sets.
In terms of Grand Slams, her best year was in 2016, when she reached the quarter-finals in Paris. She has never been beyond the third round in New York, a stage she reached in 2015 and 2017.
Rogers missed most of 2018 thorough injury, and has been slowly making her way back up the rankings since then.
Prior to Lexington, her best performance in 2020 came in Shenzhen, where she lost to Garbine Muguruza in the second-round. She battled through qualifying in Melbourne only to be beaten by the Spaniard again.
She reached the second-round of the Cincinnati Open, but was then beaten by Jil Belen Teichmann in straight sets.
