Lauren Davis v Alize Cornet Head to Head
The pair have met three times before, and Cornet has won on each occasion. Their first meeting at the Miami Open in 2013 went to three sets, but the two following matches in 2014 were easily won by Cornet.

Davis Looking to Improve her Record in New York
Davis is regarded as a clay-court specialist, and is known for her aggressive backhand and speed around the court. The 26-year old has won one senior ATP title, in Auckland in 2017, having been in two finals the previous year.
She has also enjoyed success on the ITF circuit, where she has been in 13 finals, winning eight of them, with her most recent victory coming in the clay court tournament in Bonita Springs, USA, last May.
Davis has never been beyond the third-round stage of any Grand Slam, and her record in New York is modest – the best she has managed are three second-round appearances, most recently last year.
Prior to lockdown here best result came in Hobart where she got to the third-round. She was then beaten by Elina Svitolina in the second-round in Melbourne.
She was beaten in the first round in Lexington, and failed to qualify for the Cincinnati Open.

Cornet’s Best Seems Behind Her
As a junior, Cornet won the girls’ French Open title, and, within a year of turning pro, she had been in three WTA finals, winning the Grand Prix event in Hungary in 2008. Five more titles have come since, the most recent of which came in Switzerland in 2018. She was defeated in the final there a year later, beaten by her compatriot Fiona Ferro.
Despite this most of her best results belong in the past, 2014 being a great example, a year in which she beat Serena Williams, then the world number one, three times, most notably in the semi-finals in Dubai. She also knocked her out of Wimbledon.
She has reached the fourth-round in Melbourne, Paris, and Wimbledon, but has never been further than the third round in New York, a feat she has managed three times, but not since 2014.
Her year began in Auckland where she reached the third-round, and then she went out at the second-round stage in both Hobart and Melbourne. She failed to qualify for the main draw in St. Petersburg, but again reached the second-round stage in Lyon.
In the Cincinnati Open last week, she reached the third round only to lose to the eventual winner Victoria Azarenka.
Lauren Davis v Alize Cornet Prediction & Tip
Cornet has won all three of their previous meetings, and, although the last of those matches was six years ago, is set to maintain her 100% record against Davis.
Tip: Cornet to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
