Naomi Osaka v Camila Giorgi Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between Osaka and Giorgi. In the first match which came at the Tokyo Open semifinal of 2018, Osaka had demolished Giorgi in straight sets.

The one statement Osaka made in her first round win against Misaki Doi, a fellow Japanese player, was she is fit and the foot injury that had caused her to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open final looked to have improved. Osaka, who had won the 2018 US Open but was bundled out in the fourth round last year by Belinda Bencic, will hope for a much deeper run this year. So will the loved ones of all those affected by the social issues in the country.

Giorgi Looking to Climb Back to Best Ranking
She was once ranked 26th in the world, but Giorgi has slid down to 103rd as her season low. Slowly and steadily, the Italian is now climbing back to her best, and while she is some way off that, a current ranking of 74th in the world speaks about how well she has done recently.
At the Auckland Open, Giorgi made it to the main draw through the qualifiers but lost to Serena Williams and while she lost in the qualifying rounds of Hobart, the Italian finally showed what she is capable of at the Australian Open. She made it to the third round there.
Another strong showing in Lyon followed, and while Giorgi did not play a single exhibition match during the pandemic break, she returned to storm into the Palermo Open semifinal.
And now, with a fighting win over Alison van Uytvanck, Giorgi has given herself a chance to play one of the world’s best but also one who has a hamstring problem that needs to be managed.
